Reduced Latency: An Argument for On-site Data Storage Many, however, question whether their data warehouses should exist in the cloud. And yet no one questions the value of public transportation. So in this respect, the argument to use the cloud is even more compelling than the argument in favor of public transportation. This analogy doesn’t hold up when dealing with the cloud, because the cloud is inherently flexible. It can be inconvenient to even get to a location where public transportation is available, as opposed to using your car. Now, why would one use private transportation over public? In some instances, public transportation is not flexible enough. The time you spend on driving yourself can be spent doing something else, thereby (arguably) improving your productivity. Why does someone use shared public transportation versus driving a private car? The benefit is that you don’t have to do it yourself. The pros and cons of using the cloud could be deemed analogous to riding public transportation. So the newness argument doesn’t really make sense anymore. But what comes around goes around, as the saying goes – and now the idea of creating hosted computer infrastructure for data storage has returned as cloud computing. When PCs became more prevalent, it was no longer prohibitively expensive to own computers, so the time-sharing notion fell out of fashion. This idea has not yet taken hold in the world of cloud computing, but as we will see, it is on the way. The timesharing service would maintain databases of demographic and econometric data, for example, and users could incorporate that information in their analysis. Sound familiar?įurther, because many companies were using a shared environment, it was possible for those users to easily tap into data of common interest. The users of such services would send their own data to, and do their analysis on, the managed computers. Instead, in what was then known as “timesharing”, businesses would “dial in” to remote computers managed by time-sharing services. As early as the 1970s, computing was commonly done in a cloud – simply because many companies, including large ones, could not afford their own mainframe computers. Let’s first dispel some popular misconceptions about data storage in the cloud.ĭebate about the merits of data in the cloud seems to stem from the perception that the idea is new and unproven, so people are uncertain as to whether the benefits outweigh the potential risks. We will also discuss some considerations for businesses unsure of whether to have their data warehouse in the cloud or on-site. We’ll look at this notion more closely in the article that follows. It’s paradoxical but the single reason businesses might want to use the cloud is the very same reason they might not – namely, that someone else is doing the work for you. In a research report outlining its IT predictions for 2012 and beyond, industry analyst firm Gartner stated that, “At year-end 2016, more than 50 percent of Global 1000 companies will have stored customer-sensitive data in the public cloud.” To be sure, there are indications that those concerns are abating. For these companies, security and other concerns may prevent them from adopting cloud infrastructure for data warehousing. Where to store important data, however, may be problematic for some. The business world is moving towards the cloud for many enterprise applications.

The Project CARS 2 demo is available to download now, as is the previously pre-order only Japanese Car Pack for $4.99/£3.99. On the track, you'll be able to experience the impact that the game's weather simulation has on racing too, with three scenarios on offer in the demo, presenting differing conditions to tackle. Each has unique handling and physics to get to grips with, while the track itself boasts two variations. And if you have either an Xbox One X or PS4 Pro, the demo showcases the update due to be rolled out to the full game soon.Ĭhosen to demonstrate Project CARS 2's different racing disciplines, you can tear around the Red Bull Ring in the demo behind the wheel of either the Ferrari 488 GT3, Lamborghini Huracán LP610-4, or Formula Renault 3.5. Overall, it's certainly a buy for me and I can see myself putting several hundred hours into it.Bandai Namco has released a new Project CARS 2 demo today, offering you the chance to sample Slightly Mad Studios' racing sim with a race at the laser-scanned Red Bull Ring circuit in one of three cars. It was still possible to lock the wheels and spin them on corner exits. I did experience what I could describe was TC and ABS even though I disabled them all, but I looked to my in-car display and it did show "TC 3" and "ABS 5" or something like that. my pedals only worked from 50% onwards for some reason sounds could improve for the Ferrari GT3 and the Formula Renault 3.5 + wipers that work and actually have an effect on the rain sitting on the windshield + going though the puddles and losing control of the car + UI elements ("plugins" for rF2) all work nice and present a huge amount of information + UI is amazing and "UI sounds" are very nice too, close to what F1 games offer For the demo however, users will be limited to only. Players will be able to take the Ferrari 488 GT3, Lamborghini Huracn LP610-4, and Formula Renault 3.5 for a spin on the laser-scanned Red Bull Ring in the newly released Project CARS 2 demo. + Rain looks amazing, so nice to see it change direction with the wind The full Project CARS 2 came out originally in September, and lets players race with over 180+ licensed cars, rendered in beautiful graphics. + Very immersive, it's nice to have an engineer that talks to me + No need to put shadows or opponents detail lower to have good performance, they don't need to look like early 2000's games + no "dead" look, no washed-out colors or textures + It looks f-ing amazing and performs really well Just downloaded and played through all 3 scenarios. Download this essential racing game for Windows computers and have a go. Project CARS 2 is one of the most ambitious car games for PC as of lately. On the other hand using the converted version of the Nordschliefe AC, I count bought AC + DLC Nordschleife, it seems to be the minimum (even if it would be theoretically always illegal). 8/10 (74 votes) - Download Project CARS 2 Free. Too bad because there were plenty of supercars (no supercars in rf2.). My criteria to define a simulation with "standards late 2017" not being reached at all (and very far), I was able to save ~ 50 euros. Having no demo, luckily I did not buy the game ! "Simulation" used 6-8 hours ("like a demo"). To my knowledge there was no demo, so I downloaded the game in its entirety with all the DLC. Two months ago I was so fed up with the disastrous performance of the RF2 graphics engine on my system that I tried after 12 years of rfactor and no other video games (of any type) Assetto Corsa that seemed the less unrealistic compared to RF2 (excluding iracing because when I buy something it must be mine. A rabbit who could pick up and throw things with his ears wasn't quick enough, and eventually, they condensed the idea down to a simple rolling and jumping affair, which left them with two main choices from the animal kingdom A hedgehog, or an armadillo. They wanted their mascot to be fast, smooth, streamlined and cool. A branch of Sega named "AM8" spent three long months in dedication to the design of their new star, and all manner of animals and wacky individuals were considered. The character's game should be revolutionary, and something that immediately draws the attention away from their rivals and towards them and their top console, the Sega Mega Drive (aka Genesis in the US). Not just any mascot, but one that could surpass the popularity of Mario, and be to Sega what Mickey Mouse is to Disney. They decided that what they needed was an undisputed mascot of their own, with his own game. As major underdogs, the struggling Sega needed something to get them back in the game, and fast. Long before Sony and Microsoft broke into the industry, Nintendo was in the drivers seat, with their plumbing mascot Mario firmly at the wheel. It's 1990, and the gaming world is a very different place. These people are all extremely talented, so let's not let them go unremembered (or misspelt!). Program : (Means scripting of the object behaviour, the silky smooth motion engine, and game rules - everything under the hood) I've seen attempted translations time and again, but they invariably have at least one inaccuracy. The thing is, it's in Japanese, so it's only useful if you can translate it. Yuji was apparently miffed enough at this to include a full credits screen, only accessible through a secret code. However, Sonic 1's credits employ nicknames for each of the staff, supposedly at Sega's command. I think for a site dedicated in particular to Zones, the level artists should at least be mentioned. I notice there is only a partial credits list for Sonic 1, and I thought I'd provide a full list. Sadly I do not have any historic photos of Jerome Junction, AZ, but they can be found by Google image searching the town name. Though on the flip side of the coin I do greatly appreciate the resource your website provides! It has been a great tool and asset in some of my personal projects with model railroading and writing historic fiction. I've spend many countless hours researching a lot of these forgotten railroads and railways, both Standard and Narrow Gauge. Even if a railroad is fairly obscure, with a little effort one can at least track down a RR's name. Railroads are a very important aspect of US history and often I see it being left completely out of a ghost town's history. The UV&P was known for its incredibly sharp curves and steep grades as it traverse the jagged and serrated topography of Woodchute Mountain. The line was just over 26 miles lone and the use of narrow gauge track, locomotives and rolling stock was not only cheaper, but the equipment was smaller and was the only practical way of getting a railroad into Jerome, AZ. The other railroad Jerome Junction served was the Narrow Gauge (Rails spaced 3ft apart) United Verde & Pacific which ran in an easterly direction toward Jerome, AZ. The first was the Santa Fe, Prescott, & Phoenix ( which is a Standard Gauge railroad (Rails spaced 4ft 8.5in apart) running a roughly North-South direction and was later absorbed into the larger Santa Fe RR. Jerome Junction, Arizona served two railroads and not just one. Made its last run and Jerome Junction became a ghost town. When the Santa Fe railroad was built into Clarksdale, the train Railroad was built precariously on the side of Woodchute mountainĪnd once went over the side. The Santa Fe, Prescott and Phoenix railroad for 15 years. Established in 1894, Jerome Junction served Junction deserves some also as it served as a railroad stop between It seems like the old railroad bed, or part of it, is now part of the Chino Valley Peavine Trail and is off limits to all motorized vehicles, however, it is open to horses, bicycles and pedestrians. Remains are mostly foundations, remains from what appears to be the actual station and railroad “junk”. REMAINS: FoundationsĪnd railroad equipment. The entire town of Tombstone is said to be haunted (go figure), and legendary ghost town Jerome is the site of one of the most haunted hotels in the country, which used to be an insane asylum. The site appears to be in private property, however, it can be seen from the road and pictures can be taken. To get there, take E Perkinsville Rd from SR-89 in Chino Valley.
